BELIEF HISTORY

The Apostolic Church Theological Seminary, Amumara (TACTSA), formerly known as The Apostolic Church Bible College (TACBC) Amumara was founded on 25th January 1975. It took off with five members of staff and a Clerk, namely, late Pastor S. O. Ikpeama (The Pioneer Principal) Pastor S. E. Igwe (Vice Principal), Pastor C. O. Echebiri, Deaconess F. E. Ikpeama and Deaconess R. N. Igwe with a Student population of twenty-two (22). The Bible College Committee (Now TACTSA Board) was chaired by late Apostle, R. C. Nwabuko from 1975-1986, while the proprietor of the college was Pastor G. P. Selby. The college offered Bible College Diploma.

Apostle S. E. Igwe succeeded Apostle S. O. Ikpeama as the Principal of the Bible College and served along with Apostle A. C. Ogbonna (Vice Principal) from 1990 to 1995. The Chairman of the Bible College Committee then was Late Apostle S. O. B. Amaogu (1986-2001) while the proprietor of the Bible College was Late Apostle Dr. M. M. Anyachor and later, Late Apostle R. C. Nwabuko succeeded him. The College was upgraded in 1997 to the status of a Theological Seminary with Apostle S. E. Igwe as the substantive Rector and late Pastor E. N. I. Efughu as the Deputy Rector with fifteen Staff members. At this stage the Seminary started to offer the following programmes: Certificate in Theology, Diploma in Theology, Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministry. The afore-mentioned programmes were enabled because the Seminary became a correspondent member of the Accrediting Council of Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA). Late Apostle S. O. Ikpeama succeeded Apostle S. E. Igwe as the Rector of the Seminary from 1998 to 1999 while Late Pastor E. N. I. Efughu also served as his Deputy.

In the year 2000, Pastor A. A. Akajiaku became the Rector of the Seminary and the Seminary became an Affiliate Institution with the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Nigeria. Late Pastor E. N. I. Efughu also served as his Deputy and the Staff strength was seventeen. Apostle C. C. Nwabuko later served as the Deputy Rector from 2001 to 2003 under the leadership of Apostle A. A. Akajiaku. The Chairman of the Board was Late Apostle S. O. B. Amaogu while Late Apostle R. C. Nwabuko was the Proprietor. In 2004, Apostle c. c. Nwabuko became the Rector of the Seminary and Apostle F. C. Ugorji served as the Deputy from 2004 to 2006. Late Apostle S. O. Ikpeama was the Chairman of the Board while Late Apostle R. C. Nwabuko remained as the Proprietor of the Seminary. Apostle F. C. Ugorji succeeded Apostle C. C. Nwabuko in 2006 while Apostle Njoku Okwara served as the Deputy Rector with sixteen members of Staff. In 2008, the National Universities Commission (NUC) visited The Apostolic Church Theological Seminary Amumara (TACTSA) and approved TACTSA’s Affiliation for Undergraduate Degree Programme of B. A. in Religious Studies, University of Uyo. TACTSA assumed the status of a University College. The Chairman of the Board from 2006 to 2011 was Apostle S. E. Igwe while Late Apostle R. C. Nwabuko was the Proprietor of the Seminary from 1999 to 2010.

Another milestone in development took place in TACTSA in 2009 when a team from NUC visited and substantiated her pre-Accreditation and this enabled the Seminary’s name to enter into JAMB Brochure in 2010. In 2011, TACTSA was given full Accreditation by NUC for five years after another visit. The Board Chairman then was Apostle O. N. Arisa while the Proprietor was Apostle S. E. Igwe.

Apostle Njoku Okwara succeeded Apostle F. C. Ugorji as the Rector in 2016 while Pastor I. C. Ihuoma was the Deputy Provost. One of the major fall outs of the NUC visit in 2018 was that the head of the institution; (TACTSA) should be addressed as the Provost. Rector was thus dropped as a nomenclature of the head of TACTSA. A team from NUC visited again in 2018 for re-accreditation and TACTSA was also given a full accreditation to run her Degree programmes for five years. At this stage, many graduates of TACTSA who offered the B.A. Religion programme have and still participate in the NYSC Programme. On the Chairman of TACTSA Board is Apostle A. A. Akajiaku PhD while the Proprietor is Apostle Dr. P. C. Ahia. Pastor I. C. Ihuoma succeeded Apostle Njoku Okwara in 2019 as the Acting Provost of TACTSA while Pastor D. C. Nwogwugwu served as his Deputy.

In September 2020, Pastor Iyke Iheakaghchi succeeded Pastor I. C. Ihuoma as the Acting Provost of TACTSA while Pastor Emmanuel Young is the Acting Deputy Provost. The Board Chairman remains Apostle A. A. Akajiaku PhD while the Proprietor is Apostle Dr. P. C. Ahia. In 2010/2018 Session, the Seminary established Study Centers in Aba, Umuahia, and Owerri to accommodate serving Pastors and Church officers whose Job/duty may not give them chance for a full time study at the main Campus.
